Podesta has one of the most valuable family connections in Washington: his brother is John Podesta, former head of Barack Obama’s presidential transition team, Bill Clinton’s final White House chief of staff, and current Chair of the Center for American Progress. But Anthony Podesta hasn’t needed to trade on his sibling’s reputation to climb to the pinnacle of the city’s power structure. As founder and chairman of the Podesta Group, Podesta has been widely known for his support of Democratic causes, as well as his presence at parties where corporate executives and politicians often meet. His firm’s clients range from General Dynamics to General Motors and include such Fortune 100 heavyweights as Walmart, Wells Fargo, and Lockheed Martin. He also worked for BP America during its disastrous 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The company currently has more than 60 clients and brought in more than $12.4 million during the first three quarters of 2011. On the 2010 Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act financial reform law, Podesta lobbied 25 different issues for major players such as Bank of America, as well as smaller companies, according to The New York Times.
