Once described by National Journal as “a brainy insider who sweats the details,” Van Scoyoc is considered among the most prominent figures in the Washington lobbying world. He runs three different firms that he describes as the largest government affairs and consulting organizations that aren’t affiliated with a law firm or corporation. Van Scoyoc has more than 260 clients and took in more than $19 million during the first nine months of 2011 at Van Scoyoc Associates & Capitol Decisions, Inc.; the previous year Van Scoyoc Associates brought in nearly $29 million. Its client roster is large and diverse, including IBM, DuPont (whose government affairs office Van Scoyoc once headed), and FedEx, as well as a wide spectrum of colleges and universities, hospitals, and local governments. He employs a vast array of experienced hands, including M. Jeff Hamond and James M. Crum.
